Grounding research to help you reroute and reroot

Reroot Research provides foundational mixed methods research focused on providing clarity and direction.

We believe that organizations move forward by inviting people in.

Reroot Research is a UX research agency that helps organizations get unstuck using equitable and scrappy research methods to connect to relevant audiences and understand their needs. Our process involves working with people historically excluded from design research and strategy, trusting their voices and expertise. We also bring synthesis and product management skills to the work, ensuring insights are actionable for you. We work exclusively with values-driven organizations dedicated to leaving the world better than they found it.

Offerings

There are four basic ways we can work together. They differ based on the level of integration with your organization and my role as either an active researcher or supporting your research.

1

Researcher-in-Residence

High Integration / Active Researcher

Interested in a big project but worried an outside firm isn’t the right fit? As your researcher-in-residence, Reroot will join your team - email, Slack, and all your internal tools - for a set amount of time to run the project internally.

2

Project-based Design Research and Strategy

Low Integration / Active Researcher

Need an external researcher to develop, execute, and synthesize design research for you? That’s where we come in.

3

Sustainable Research Systems Design

High Integration / Support

We’ll build out the necessary pieces for recruiting, maintaining, scheduling, and paying users so your team can focus on the conversations, not the logistics.

4

Hourly Advising and Coaching

Low Integration / Support

For clients who want access to coaching and advising from a design research perspective, we offer ‘use-as-you-need-it’ hourly rates.

Operating Principles

  • Our goal is to get you exactly what you need—the research and findings—without wasting time (and therefore your money!) on fancy and elaborate deliverables. We optimize our work together for the results that matter without the frills that cost you extra.

  • The backbone of our work is an emphasis on ethics and equity in the design process. Reroot elevates the voices of people who need to be heard and translates them into findings that fit into your language and approach. We move forward by inviting people in, not isolating them. This includes exploring and discussing the power dynamics at play and the historical context of what has and has not been considered and evaluated previously.

  • Many of the systems we work with (health care, for example!) are complex—but that doesn’t mean people have to struggle through them. We love to make complex problems and systems approachable and easy to understand.

  • While Reroot has expertise in the research process, we’re not experts in your field. We understand the importance of learning the intricacies of the system you work within to be successful on our project. To do so, we ask strategic questions to fill in our gaps and turn to your expertise to fill in others. This allows us to jump into new sectors and systems quickly and with ease and see the larger system you operate within
